ABOUT JAMI

 

Jami Ames is based out of Maine. She began taking dance classes at the age of three with Lionette Gagne before finding her home at Alma-Lea's Dance Studio in Lisbon, Maine under the direction of Alma-Lea Pace. Jami trained in ballet (Cecchetti & Vaganova), pointe work, jazz, tap, lyrical, and contemporary. At the age of nine she was introduced to competitive dance, winning multiple regional and national awards. Jami progressed to instructing her own classes at age 15. She began coaching and choreographing competitive routines at age 16, winning high score, overall placement, and choreography awards.

Her passion for dance education grew and she enrolled in Dance Masters of America's Teachers Training School at SUNY in Buffalo, NY. Jami received her graduate diploma from TTS in 2014, passing national exams in ballet, tap, jazz and modern. Jami is a member in good standing with Dance Masters of New England - Chapter #5. Jami continues to educate herself by taking classes at Broadway Dance Center in NYC, as well as attending national conventions and teacher workshops.

Jami's students have gone on to receive collegiate scholarship opportunities and have been accepted into educational performing arts programs such as The Joffery School Summer Intensive, The NYC Rockette Experience, DMA Student Honors Intensive Program as well as winning regional/national title placements.

She holds a special place in her heart for each and every student she works with, showing them that the real "trophies" are won inside the classroom. Her passion for dance grows daily and she strives to instill this in all of her students.

Jami teaches and choreographs all over the state of Maine and beyond. She is an activist member of Youth Protection Advocates in Dance, an affiliate member of the Association of Dance Conventions & Competitions and she is also on staff as a competition judge with Impact Dance Adjudicators.
